Public Health in Prostitute Area (PHPA)
Another team of doctors and health workers under guidance of a Project Monitor is running the PHPA Project at 100, Durga Charan Mitra Street, Kolkata - 6 in Sonagachi, the red light area. Here the clinic is open for 2 hours per day, 3 days a week. Here awareness programme is of equal importance like treatment. Now two peer workers have joined in the team as field workers. Last year the total no. of patients treated here was around 2200. After 4 years the participant physicians are getting more responses from this project. Now they are much willing to launch another project here to guide the children of age group upto 12 years of the Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs). The monitor as well as the General Secretary and Programme Supervisor are in search of a suitable house on rental basis to start the programme.
